When should I take my engagement ring off?
You just got engaged and
can’t stop staring at your dazzling new engagement ring. The last thing you
want to think about is having to take it off. Sorry to burst your shiny bubble
darlings, but there are certain times when you definitely want to take that
sparkler off if you want to protect it and keep it shining like new.
Here are a few frequently asked
questions by our customers followed with some of our best tips to keep that rock
glimmering!
Can I shower with my engagement ring on?
Sure, you can shower with
your ring on, but you definitely shouldn’t. While your favorite body wash and
shampoo may be good for the skin, it’s not good for the ring. These products
can cause the collection of dirt and grime. Plus, soapy suds can potentially
cause your ring to slide off. We don’t want that swirling down the drain now do
we? Neither does your fiancé/husband/wife! Be sure to store your ring in a safe place
outside of the bathroom. DO NOT leave it on the top of the toilet (guilty)!
Should I bring my engagement ring on our
honeymoon/travels?
Sigh. You just got married
and want to show off that perfect engagement ring and wedding ring combo. There
is nothing more we love than seeing photos of your Brilliance Bling all over
the world. However, we highly advise that you do not bring your engagement ring
abroad. One of our customers was on their honeymoon in Europe when her ring was
stolen in her hotel room. It was even locked in the safe! The perfect solution
is to just wear your wedding band and leave the rock behind. If you have
worries about wearing your wedding band, we have stylish, plain bands that are
my go to’s when traveling. You can find them in our Etsy shop or in store.
Can I wear my engagement ring when I work out?
It’s probably not the best
idea to wear your ring while you work out. Metal is durable but that doesn’t
mean it can’t bend. If you are doing anything strenuous with your hands such as
boxing, kickboxing, weight lifting, cross-fitting, etc. leaving your ring somewhere safe is your best option. Maybe, just maybe, you can
get away with wearing it at your spin class or running. If you're worried about getting hit on, there
are great alternatives such as silicone rings and ring cozies to ward them off!
Can I swim in the beach/pool with my ring?
Kevin and I were recently on
a beach trip with good friends. While we were all in the ocean our friend’s
wedding band slipped off. Unfortunately, the water was murky and after spending
an ample amount of time searching for it we were unable find it. It’s always best
to be on the safe side, so we suggest that you take off your ring while at the
beach or pool area. You never know when a feral wave will come crashing into
you.
We also get asked a lot if chlorine is harmful to a ring. If you have a white gold ring, you should remove it before jumping into a pool full of chlorine. Chlorine causes the Rhodium on white gold rings to wear off quicker.
Should I wear my ring when cleaning or doing household
tasks?
When I walk into the house at
the end of each work day the first thing I do is take off my engagement ring
and wedding band. Invest in a cute jewelry holder so that you have a designated
spot where your ring can be once you’ve removed it. Taking it off not only
keeps it clean and shiny, but protects it from when I cook, clean, and perform
other household duties. The types of chemicals found in many household cleaners
can erode metal and dull the finish.
Can I sleep with my ring on?
This is a personal
preference. Some do, some don’t. I don’t find it very comfortable and it could
cloud your ring making that once radiant diamond seem dull and dim. Just give it a good shine in the morning and you'll be good to go!
